New Financing Help
Available
The
cancellation of the Government's help for SMEs and schools through
grants made available through the Energy Saving Trust "Lightswitch"
scheme and "SchoolEnergy" has led to a new financing
approach from the private sector.
This has enabled DEM Metron to announce our new "Making
Energy Pay" deferred payments scheme whereby schools or other
electricity users including SMEs are able to cover the capital
coast of installing energy saving controls for lighting and
electric heating at a minimal cost to themselves.
In many cases this will be no more than a third of the total
capital cost and will provide savings of 30 - 50% off their future
electricity bills

Further Rises in Electricity
Prices Inevitable
The spectacular power failure in America recently has led to a
re-think on the power supply situation in the UK and has brought
the realisation that the electricity supply system has been
suffering from under-investment in the same way as the USA.
Older power plants have been shut down and no moves made to
replace this lost capacity.
Any further nuclear power stations are unlikely to be built and
coal burning power stations are likely to be discouraged in favour
of gas fired generation which will still have to be built.

There is also likely to be a substantial investment in wind power
as this will satisfy the pressure to make more use of renewable
sources to reduce the production of harmful greenhouse gases.
The outcome of this will be the requirement for a very substantial
financial investment which will only be forthcoming if the
generation and distribution of electricity can be seen by the City
and the banks to be capable of producing a satisfactory profit. At
the moment the new electricity trading arrangements (NETA)
introduced a couple of years ago to introduce competition in the
electricity industry has produced a fall of 40% in the wholesale
price resulting in substantial losses for nuclear generator
British Energy and Drax Power Station, the largest coal fired
power station in Europe. The latter has amassed debts of over
£400M and is facing huge financial difficulties.
What is obvious from this is that and the forecasts being made of
power shortages in the coming winter months that significant
investment is required in new generating capacity which will
produce an inevitable increase in the price of electricity to
consumers.
Already there has been mention of increases of 30% to cover this
expenditure.

Electric Heating
Controls for New Fruit Terminal at Avonmouth Docks
The offices
for the new fruit terminal at Avonmouth Docks operated by the
Bristol Port Company have been equipped with DEM Metron energy
efficiency controls to provide full economic and comfort
management for the on-peak electric heating fitted in the offices
attached to the new terminal building. This is one of the variants
of the DEM TC2030 system which has been applied extensively to the
widespread offices, workshops and dormitory buildings around the
dock areas at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury.
The TC2030 is one of a family of electronic system of control
specially designed for use with on-peak electric heating which has
consistently produced savings of as much as 40% as verified by
studies carried out by a number of users.

Case Histories
DEM Metron
have produced a number of Case Histories showing savings of 30 -
50% on energy and electricity bills for lighting and electric
heating. Copies of these are available on request.
